German Cockroach Treatment

German cockroaches are not the same job as the big outdoor roaches District Heights residents find in basements and around storm drains after a summer rain. American and smokybrown roaches wander in, die off, and respond to exterior work. German cockroaches never leave — they live inside the kitchen, feeding on grease film and crumbs and nesting in the warm gap behind the refrigerator motor, under the sink cabinet, inside the dishwasher frame and along cabinet hinge lines. That difference decides the treatment. Baiting works on German cockroaches because they groom, feed each other and carry the active ingredient back into harborage. Over-the-counter foggers and total-release "bug bombs" do the opposite: they push the population deeper into wall voids and into neighboring units, which is the single most common reason a roach problem in an apartment comes back four weeks after someone sprayed.

Location matters more here than in most of Prince George's County. In the Donnell Drive apartment blocks and the older rental stock off Marlboro Pike and Silver Hill Road, kitchens and baths in stacked units share plumbing chases and cabinet backs. Treat one unit and leave the unit next door alone, and reinfestation is a matter of weeks. When our monitors show roaches concentrated on a shared wall, the findings sheet says so plainly, and we recommend treating the adjacent units — a landlord or property manager can act on that document without taking anyone's word for it. In detached homes around the Marbury Drive and Municipal Center area, Coral Hills and Ritchie, the source is usually narrower: a single introduction through a grocery bag, a used appliance, or cardboard from a move, then a slow build under one sink. Those cases often close out in two visits.

Safety and prep are where most homeowners have real questions, so we answer them before the visit. Gel bait and IGR go into cracks, hinge gaps, void openings and the underside of cabinet framing — placements a toddler or a dog cannot reach — not onto counters, table tops or floors where food is handled. We tell you the product name, the label re-entry time, and which rooms need to stay clear and for how long. Prep is short and specific: clear items from under the kitchen and bathroom sinks, empty lower cabinets in the worst room, wipe grease from the stove sides and toe kick, and pull the refrigerator out if you can. What we do not need is a spotless house. German cockroaches show up in clean kitchens all over District Heights, and nobody on our crew treats an infestation as a verdict on the homeowner.

Expect verification, not a single spray and a receipt. Monitors stay in place between visits and get counted at the follow-up — that count, not a guess, tells us whether the population is collapsing or whether there is a second harborage we have not found yet. If the numbers are still moving at visit three, we look at moisture and access: a slow supply-line drip under a bathroom vanity, a dishwasher gasket holding water, a shared trash room, or a gap where a pipe passes through drywall that needs sealing. Sealing those gaps costs nothing in product and prevents the next round.
